The Gunners’ left-back has been working under the Spaniard for over a year now and has been one of the standout performers of Arteta’s reign to date.
Yet while Arteta landed the FA Cup in the space of just six months, Arsenal have struggled this season and currently languish in mid-table.
The jury remains out on Arteta’s capabilities as a top-flight boss so soon into his managerial career, but many feel he has already shown the potential to take Arsenal to the next level – including Tierney.
He told Sky Sports : “We know what he wants to do, and we’re getting – well, we hope we’re getting better every week and hopefully the results show that.
“It wasn’t going to be something that would just going to happen straight away because it’s a process.
“The manager is a genius. A football genius. You can see we are all loving working under him and me especially, I love it.
“Every day I’m learning, he has shown me a new light onto football. I’m seeing it a different way now and I’m watching other teams and looking at tactics and that’s just because of the way he has made me think about it.”
“He understood the game, knew what he wanted and was a great signing for me at Everton. We brought him on loan initially but he didn’t half make some difference.
“Being a manager you pick players up on the road, on the journey and everyone brings something to you and Mikel brought great things to us as a team – his ability, changed our dynamics with the many things he had, but I think always he had that edge that he could play higher because of his ability which he went on to do.
“But also he had the ability where if he chose to go into management he could do.
“I think he’s had the chance to work under Arsene Wenger. He’s been very close to Pep in his time there at Man City, so all those things will have helped him in his development in the future.”
